Bandits Kill 3 Police Officers in Kwara Attack

Three police officers have been shot dead after bandits overran a Police Mobile Force (PMF) camp in Tenebo community, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State. The attack, which took place in the early hours of Saturday, May 2, 2026, also left two other officers injured.

Details of the Assault

The assault reportedly caught security personnel off guard as the attackers stormed the facility in large numbers, some arriving on motorcycles. A resident, Mr. Mohammed Abdul, stated that the bandits came around 2 a.m. and attempted to enter the town but were met with resistance from security forces, leading to a heavy gunfight that lasted for hours.

“At the end of the gun duel, three officers were killed and two were injured. The bandits left thereafter, but nobody was kidnapped, and we don’t know whether there was any casualty on their side,” Abdul said.

Residents Express Fear

Another resident, Mr. Halidu Umar, described the fear that gripped the community: “None of us who have houses around that axis could sleep through the night, and even now, we are still afraid because the community, Tenebo, is about 4 kilometers to Kaiama town.” He added that the Tenebo community also leads to the National Park, from where these bandits have been operating. “This incident followed similar patterns where they will just come and attack and retreat to the forest,” Umar noted.

Police Confirmation

The Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, confirmed the incident during a telephone chat with Daily Trust on Saturday. “Yes, it’s true, and we lost three gallant officers in the attack, with two injured. Those injured are responding to treatment, but no arrest has been made,” he said.
