Bandits have launched a deadly attack on Odo-Ere, the headquarters of Yagba West Local Government Area in Kogi State, resulting in the death of a Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officer and the abduction of his daughter.

The armed assailants struck the community on Monday evening, June 8, 2026, causing panic among residents. According to sources, the deceased officer, identified as Mr. Ayo, was fatally shot in the head during the assault.
Mr. Ayo was rushed to a nearby medical facility but was pronounced dead upon arrival. His remains have since been deposited in a mortuary for preservation.
The attackers, before fleeing the scene, abducted his eldest daughter. The community has been thrown into mourning, and security agencies have launched a manhunt for the perpetrators.
This incident adds to the growing concerns over insecurity in the region, as banditry continues to plague parts of Kogi State. Authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding the attack.
