Bandits Kill One, Abduct Four Including Family and Nurse in Kaduna Raids
Suspected bandits have carried out a series of violent attacks in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, resulting in the tragic death of one individual and the abduction of four others, including three members of a single family and a nurse. The incidents, which occurred on Monday, March 2, 2026, have heightened security concerns in the region, prompting swift responses from local security forces.
Midnight Attack in Kyauta Community
In the first attack, armed men stormed the Kyauta community, located on the outskirts of Millennium City, around midnight. According to reports, the assailants fired gunshots to intimidate residents before abducting five people. The secretary of the local Joint Task Force (JTF), Abuammar Abdullahi, confirmed that the attackers fled towards a nearby bush after the abduction.
During the chaos, one elderly woman was later discovered in the forest after being abandoned by the kidnappers because she could not keep up with their pace. Additionally, the wife of the house owner was found hours later, having been left behind by the fleeing gunmen. The remaining victims include two boys and their aunt, who are still missing.
Arrest of Suspect and Police Investigation
Residents, in collaboration with JTF members, quickly mobilized and trailed the attackers, leading to the arrest of one suspect. Abdullahi stated that the elderly woman positively identified the suspect as one of the kidnappers. The suspect was subsequently handed over to security personnel for further action.
The Kaduna State Police Command has confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody and that investigations are ongoing to uncover more details about the incident and potentially locate the remaining victims.
Second Attack in Kujama, Tudun Wada
In a related development, bandits also attacked Kujama, Tudun Wada, within Chikun LGA, on the same day. This assault resulted in the abduction of several individuals, including Nurse Candy J. Awokson, and the brutal killing of Mr. Ayuba Barau. The dual attacks underscore the persistent security challenges faced by communities in Kaduna State, despite efforts by local and state authorities to curb such violence.
These incidents highlight the urgent need for enhanced security measures and community vigilance in the region. Authorities are urging residents to report any suspicious activities and cooperate with security forces to prevent future occurrences.
