Armed bandits have reportedly killed one person and abducted several others in fresh attacks on communities in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State. According to security analyst Bakatsine, the incidents occurred on Thursday night and Friday morning, March 5 and 6, 2026, targeting residents during the holy month of Ramadan.

First Attack in Gangaren Mangwarori

The first incident took place on Thursday night, March 5, 2026, around 12:00 AM in Gangaren Mangwarori, Kankara town. Bandits stormed the area and killed a respected resident, Malam Surajo, while also abducting an elderly woman identified as Gwamma. This violent intrusion has left the community in shock and mourning.

Second Attack in Marabar Gurbi

In a separate attack around 6:00 AM on Friday, March 6, the assailants invaded Marabar Gurbi community, also within Kankara LGA. Several residents were abducted, including the community’s second Imam (Na’ibi), Malam Jamilu Marabar Gurbi. The Imam was on his way to the mosque for Subhi (Fajr) prayer after Sahoor when the attackers struck, highlighting the brazen nature of the assault during a sacred time.

Rising Security Concerns

These incidents have raised fresh concerns among residents, coming despite a peace deal reportedly reached between Kankara stakeholders and bandit groups ahead of the Ramadan period.
