Bandits have attacked the Iluke Bunu community in Kogi State, resulting in the tragic death of the Vice Principal of Government Secondary School, Iluke, and the abduction of students. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning, plunging the community into grief and fear.
Details of the Attack
The victim, identified as Mr. Gani Anifowose, was gruesomely killed during the assault by armed bandits. Residents report that the community is under severe security threat, with panic spreading across the area. In a related development, students from three communities who were scheduled to sit for the English Language WAEC examination have reportedly been kidnapped amid the ongoing insecurity.
Growing Concerns for Safety
The attack has raised fresh concerns about the safety of students, teachers, and residents in vulnerable communities across Kogi State. A representative of the community association has called on security agencies and authorities to urgently intensify efforts to restore peace, secure the affected communities, and ensure the safe return of all abducted victims.
“An hour has passed with no sign of rescue efforts from security agencies, despite multiple calls for help. We urge citizens to remain calm and continue praying for divine intervention, protection, and lasting peace in our communities,” the representative stated.
The incident highlights the persistent security challenges in the region, with banditry continuing to threaten lives and livelihoods. Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the attack or rescue operations.
