Bandits Storm Katsina Community, Kill Seven Residents
Bandits have killed seven villagers in Unguwar Sarkin Fawa community, Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State. The attack, which occurred late Tuesday night, left the community in mourning as residents counted their losses.
According to a resident, Malam Bala Umar, the bandits arrived on motorcycles and opened fire on the villagers. 'They came around 10 p.m. and started shooting sporadically. Seven people were killed, and many others sustained injuries,' Umar said.
Victims Shot Dead, Property Looted
The assailants also looted valuables, including foodstuff and livestock, before fleeing the scene. The bodies of the victims have been buried according to Islamic rites.
Katsina State has been plagued by banditry and kidnapping for years, with attacks on rural communities becoming frequent. Despite government efforts to curb the menace, bandits continue to operate in the region.
Security Forces Deployed to Area
Police spokesperson SP Gambo Isah confirmed the incident, stating that security operatives have been deployed to the area to track down the perpetrators. 'We received a report of the attack and have sent a team to the scene. Investigation is ongoing,' Isah said.
The attack is the latest in a series of violent incidents in Katsina, which shares a border with Zamfara State, another hotspot for banditry. Residents have called for increased security presence to protect their communities.
