Fresh Boko Haram Assaults Leave Dozens Dead in Niger State Communities
Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have carried out devastating coordinated attacks across multiple communities in Niger State, resulting in dozens of fatalities and widespread destruction of property. The violent assaults targeted areas within Borgu and Agwara Local Government Areas, with residents reporting that the attacks began in the early morning hours and continued for several hours without immediate intervention from security forces.
Coordinated Morning Attacks Trap Residents
According to eyewitness accounts, the attackers stormed various communities around 6 a.m., leaving residents trapped and helpless as the violence unfolded. A resident from Borgu Local Government Area confirmed that the insurgents had attacked at least three different communities during the assault, with no military support arriving to assist the besieged populations.
The same resident stated: "It's the same people that attack Woro that are in that same community taking operations from 6 a.m. I think up to now as I'm speaking to you they've attacked like three communities today."
Multiple Districts Report Casualties
Another resident identified as Damisa confirmed that multiple districts had already recorded significant casualties from the attacks. Konkoso District and Shafaci District were among the communities specifically mentioned as targets, with at least 26 deaths already confirmed in these areas alone.
Further reports indicate that the insurgents moved systematically from village to village overnight, killing residents and destroying properties including houses and shops. Additional settlements including Pissa, Zango, and Tungan Makeri villages were also reportedly attacked, with 21 people confirmed killed in Konkoso town according to local sources.
Connection to Previous Woro Massacre
Residents have linked the attackers to the same group suspected of carrying out the recent deadly invasion of Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State. That previous attack left scores dead and resulted in the abduction of approximately 176 people, mostly women and children, who were later seen in disturbing videos pleading for rescue.
The latest attacks have intensified fears across North Central Nigeria about the spread of insurgent activities beyond traditional conflict zones. Community members in Niger State report that many residents have begun fleeing their homes as the attacks continue, creating a growing humanitarian crisis in the region.
Security Response and Growing Concerns
As of the time of reporting, security authorities had yet to issue an official statement regarding the latest attacks. Residents continue to call for urgent military intervention to prevent further loss of lives and property destruction.
The attacks come amid heightened security concerns in North Central Nigeria following multiple incidents of violence in recent weeks. Just days before these latest assaults, terrorists attacked Gidan Sani village in Kwara State, killing a woman and her two children near the Kwara State Permanent NYSC Camp.
The expanding pattern of violence has raised serious questions about security preparedness in the region and the ability of authorities to protect vulnerable communities from insurgent groups operating with apparent impunity.
