Family Appeals to Stop Sharing Graphic Videos of Murdered Oyo Teacher
Family Asks Public to Stop Sharing Graphic Murder Videos

The family of Michael Oyedokun, the Oyo school teacher who was murdered by bandits, has made a heartfelt appeal to the public to cease sharing graphic videos and photos of his killing. The bandits invaded the Aholo-Esinele community in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State last Friday, abducting pupils, students, and staff from four schools.

Details of the Incident

Mr. Oyedokun was beheaded in a video that was allegedly released by the bandits on Sunday, May 17. The graphic nature of the footage has caused immense distress to his family, especially his children, who are currently sitting for their WAEC examinations.

Family's Plea

Adesewa Oladosu, a family member, made the appeal in a Facebook post on Tuesday, May 19. She wrote: "Hello everyone, please we sincerely appeal to the public and media platforms to kindly reduce or stop sharing the graphic videos and pictures of our beloved uncle. We truly appreciate the love, concern, and sympathy shown towards our family during this painful time. However, the continuous circulation of those videos and images is deeply traumatizing for us as a family."

She further explained that his children are currently writing their WAEC exams, and it has been extremely difficult emotionally for them, his elderly loved ones, and all relatives, especially as these contents keep appearing on social media. She humbly asked that if it is necessary to post about the incident, people should kindly blur the videos or images or use the pictures officially released by the family instead. She concluded: "We sincerely appreciate your understanding, prayers, love, and support during this difficult period. Thank you."
