Gunmen suspected to be herders have attacked Gwon-Ajang village in Foron district, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing at least seven people and leaving scores injured.

The assault occurred on Sunday night, May 31, 2026, at approximately 9:30 p.m. The attackers, believed to be Fulani herders, raided the village without any prior warning.
Rwang Tengwong, spokesperson for the Berom Youths Moulder-Association, confirmed the incident on Monday. He stated that the armed invasion was perpetrated by terrorist gangs of Fulani origin. At least seven persons were reportedly killed, and more than ten others sustained injuries.
Security Response
Mr. Tengwong noted that the Special Task Force commander in charge of the axis expressed surprise at the attack, as there were no signs of an impending assault. He said, 'The Special Task Force commander who is in charge of that axis. He said it even took him by surprise because most of the attack, you will see a sign, but there was nothing like trust before the attack.'
The attack has heightened tensions in the area, with local authorities calling for increased security measures to prevent further violence.
