A herder has been arraigned in court for the alleged murder of a farmer who attempted to stop him from grazing on his farm. The incident has sparked outrage and renewed concerns over the spate of indiscriminate killings across Nigeria.
Court Arraignment Details
According to an Abuja-based lawyer, Ebuka Ikeorah, who shared the news in a Facebook post on Monday, May 25, 2026, the suspect was brought before a court on charges of homicide. Ikeorah decried the rampant and indiscriminate killings occurring throughout the country, highlighting the brutality of this particular case.
Ikeorah stated that the suspect allegedly caused the death of the farmer by cutting open his heart. "Earlier today in court, this guy was arraigned for homicide. He allegedly cut a man's heart open for refusing to allow him enter the man's farm with his cow," he wrote.
Suspect Still at Large
The lawyer further revealed that there were two suspects involved in the incident, with one still at large. He expressed dismay at the state of the nation, questioning how anyone could resort to such extreme violence over a dispute about grass for livestock.
Ikeorah lamented: "Sometimes I wonder what this country has sunk to, that every day there are indiscriminate killings. How can you cut open a man's heart because of ordinary grass for your cow?"
The case has drawn attention to the ongoing conflicts between farmers and herders in Nigeria, which have often resulted in violent clashes and loss of lives. Authorities are urged to take swift action to apprehend the fleeing suspect and ensure justice for the victim.
