IED Blast Kills Six in Zamfara, Injures Six Others

At least six people were killed and six others hospitalized following an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion along the road from Bagega to Anka town in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The IED detonated in the early hours of Thursday, May 7, 2026, targeting a commercial motor vehicle carrying passengers. The blast caused significant damage and disrupted traffic along the Bagega-Anka road.

Local sources reported that the explosive device was planted by suspected bandits and detonated as the commercial vehicle passed through the area. A resident of Bagega town, Mallam Danbagega, speaking via telephone, said the explosion occurred around 9 a.m. He added that some passengers died instantly while others sustained serious injuries.

The spokesperson for the Zamfara State Police Command, DSP Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the incident, stating that six people were confirmed dead and six others were receiving treatment at a hospital. The police spokesperson noted that normalcy has since returned to the area following the deployment of additional security personnel.
