IGP Orders Coordinated Security Response to Kaduna Church Attack, Seven Abducted Victims Rescued
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has directed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, DIG Shehu Umar Nadada, to deploy immediately to Kaduna State. This decisive move comes as a direct response to the recent brutal attack by armed bandits in Ariko Village, located near the Gurara Dam area.
Details of the Violent Incident
According to an official statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, the attack occurred on Saturday, 5 April 2026. Armed assailants targeted the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) and a Catholic Church within the community. The bandits fired indiscriminately at worshippers, resulting in a tragic loss of life and mass abductions.
Five individuals were confirmed killed during the assault, while approximately fourteen others were forcibly taken by the attackers. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community and heightened security concerns across the region.
Immediate Police Intervention and Operational Coordination
In reaction to this heinous crime, IGP Olatunji Disu ordered an immediate and robust operational intervention. DIG Shehu Umar Nadada was specifically tasked with traveling to the site to conduct a firsthand assessment of the situation. His primary mandate is to coordinate all security efforts aimed at restoring public order and, most critically, securing the safe release of the abducted victims.
The deployment underscores the police force's commitment to a swift and coordinated response in crisis situations.
Successful Joint Rescue Operation
The coordinated security efforts have already yielded positive results. The team, led by DIG Nadada and operating in close collaboration with personnel from the Nigerian Army and the Department of State Services (DSS), successfully rescued seven of the kidnapped victims.
These rescued individuals were promptly taken to Katari Hospital to receive necessary medical attention. Officials report that all seven are in stable condition and are currently awaiting reunion with their anxious families.
Ongoing Efforts and Public Appeal
Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu has affirmed that security operations will continue relentlessly. The objectives remain clear: to secure the release of the remaining abducted victims and to apprehend those responsible for planning and executing the attack.
He has also issued a strong appeal to the public, urging citizens to remain vigilant, cooperate fully with security agencies, and provide any credible information that could support the ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks and ensure community safety.
