In a decisive move to combat escalating insecurity, Katsina State Governor Dikko Umaru Radda has issued an executive order banning the sale, purchase, transportation, and storage of petroleum products in jerrycans across the state. The announcement followed an emergency security meeting with security agencies, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders.
Ban on Fuel in Jerrycans
The governor stated that the prohibition aims to cut off fuel supplies to criminal elements operating from forests and remote hideouts. The executive order takes immediate effect statewide.
Closure of POS and Charging Centres
Additionally, Governor Radda ordered the immediate shutdown of all Point of Sale (POS) outlets and commercial phone-charging centres in Matazu and Musawa Local Government Areas. Intelligence reports indicated that some of these facilities were being exploited by criminal networks to coordinate and sustain their activities.
Motorcycle Ban in Two LGAs
A total ban on the use of motorcycles in Matazu and Musawa LGAs was also imposed. This measure is intended to restrict the movement of bandits and kidnappers who frequently use motorcycles to launch attacks and evade security forces.
Governor Radda reiterated that protecting lives and property remains his administration's top priority. He assured residents of continued collaboration with security agencies to restore lasting peace and stability across the state. The governor warned that violators of the executive order would face strict sanctions, emphasizing that his administration would not tolerate any breach of the directives.
