The Kogi State Government has expressed profound sorrow over the terrorist attack on Iluke Community in Bunu District, Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area. Criminal elements disguised in military uniforms carried out the assault, resulting in the deaths of three community members.

Government Condolences and Response

In a statement signed by the Commissioner of Information, Kingsley Fanwo, the government extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the people of Iluke, and the entire Bunu District. The statement commended the swift and brave response of military personnel and local security forces, whose intervention prevented a mass abduction of students and further casualties.

Reports indicate that the bandits disrupted an ongoing WAEC examination and began marching students into the bush. Security operatives engaged them in a fierce gun battle, successfully rescuing all students unharmed.

Security Operation and Aftermath

During the operation, security forces neutralized one bandit, while several others escaped with severe gunshot injuries. Security agencies are currently pursuing the fleeing criminals and intensifying efforts to ensure all perpetrators are apprehended and brought to justice.

The government praised the military, local vigilantes, hunters, and other security personnel for their sacrifice and patriotism, which saved innocent lives and prevented a devastating mass abduction.

Strengthened Security Measures

The government is closely monitoring the situation and working with relevant agencies to bolster security in the area. Additional measures will be announced soon to safeguard lives and property. Residents are urged to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperative with security forces by providing timely and credible information.

“Let it be clearly stated that Kogi State will not submit to terror. Criminal elements will continue to meet a determined and uncompromising response,” the statement added.

The government reiterated its sympathy for the bereaved families and prayed for the repose of the deceased souls, standing in solidarity with Iluke Community as security efforts continue.
