NBA Minna Condemns Niger Bandit Attacks, Demands Action
NBA Condemns Bandit Attacks in Niger State

The Minna Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has issued a strong condemnation of the recent wave of violent attacks carried out by bandits and terrorist groups in parts of Niger State.

Coordinated Assaults on Rural Communities

The association specifically referenced the devastating coordinated attacks that struck the Borgu and Agwara Local Government Areas. These assaults resulted in the tragic loss of several lives and led to the abduction of numerous individuals, with women and children among those taken.

In a statement released on January 6, 2026, the Branch Chairman, Isyaku Barau, Esq., MCArb., described the acts as barbaric, inhumane, and completely unacceptable within any civilized society. He expressed the NBA's profound dismay at the persistent targeting of rural communities, educational institutions, and the most vulnerable members of society.

A Direct Attack on Fundamental Rights

Barau emphasized that these violent incidents signify a disturbing escalation in criminal activities within the state. He framed the attacks as a direct assault on constitutionally guaranteed rights, stating they violate the fundamental rights to life, liberty, and human dignity of the citizens.

The NBA Minna Branch extended its heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the communities ravaged by the violence and to the families mourning lost loved ones. The association also offered prayers for the swift and safe return of all abducted persons and for comfort for those grieving.

Call for Government Action and Community Vigilance

Chairman Barau issued a direct appeal to the Niger State Government, the Federal Government, and all security agencies. He urged them to immediately deploy coordinated and effective measures to rescue the victims and put a decisive end to the ongoing assaults. He stressed that the primary and non-negotiable responsibility of any government is the safeguarding of lives and property, adding that Nigerians now expect concrete, actionable results rather than repeated promises.

Furthermore, the NBA called upon citizens, traditional rulers, and community stakeholders to unite in the face of the insecurity. The statement identified enhanced community vigilance, active cooperation with law enforcement, and the timely sharing of credible intelligence as critical components in defeating the criminal elements terrorizing the state.

Reaffirming its own commitment to the principles of the rule of law and human rights, the NBA Minna Branch pledged its continued support for all initiatives aimed at restoring lasting peace and stability in Niger State. The statement concluded with a prayer: “May God grant swift relief to the abducted, defeat the enemies of peace, and restore lasting security to Niger State and Nigeria.”
