The peaceful atmosphere in Ayegunle Bunu community in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State was shattered following a pre-dawn invasion by armed bandits. The attack, which occurred at approximately 2:25 a.m., left one resident dead and at least 30 others abducted, according to local sources.
Details of the Attack
The bandits stormed the community, shooting sporadically to instill fear. A male resident, whose identity has not yet been confirmed, was killed during the raid. The gunmen also abducted a man, his wife, and 30 other community members at gunpoint. In addition to the home invasions, the attackers laid an ambush on the highway, intercepting commercial vehicles and kidnapping all passengers on board. The total number of residents and travelers abducted remains unclear at press time.
Injuries and Response
The attack also left several residents injured, though the extent of their injuries is not yet known. The Kogi State Police Command has not provided an official comment on the incident. The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Oyiza Saliu, could not be reached via phone for confirmation or details regarding casualties.
The community, previously known for its tranquility, is now in a state of fear and mourning. Local authorities are urged to take immediate action to secure the area and rescue the kidnapped victims.
