Deadly Assault in Plateau Community Leaves One Dead, Eight Abducted
In a distressing incident that has heightened security concerns, gunmen launched a violent attack on the Dogon Ruwa community located within the Bashar district of Wase Local Government Area in Plateau State. The assault resulted in the tragic death of one resident and the abduction of eight individuals, including a prominent religious leader and his prayer caller.
Details of the Sunday Attack
According to local reports, the victims were targeted on the outskirts of Dogon Ruwa on Sunday, February 8, 2026. At the time of the attack, they were actively engaged in charcoal production, a common commercial activity in the area. Shapi’i Sambo, a youth leader in Wase, provided a harrowing account of the events. He stated that the gunmen suddenly stormed the area while the victims were processing charcoal, leading to chaos and fear among the community members.
The abducted individuals include Malam Abdulrashid Baduku, an Imam from the Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’a Wa’ikamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS) organization, along with his Muazzin (prayer caller), and six other persons. Following the attack, residents attempted to pursue the assailants but were hindered by the evening darkness, preventing them from apprehending the perpetrators.

The incident has instilled widespread panic among locals in Dogon Ruwa, a community that has been grappling with persistent banditry and kidnapping threats in recent times. In response to the attack, security personnel have been stationed in the area, with additional forces deployed to bolster security measures. On July 29, 2025, the area witnessed another violent episode when bandits ambushed soldiers and vigilantes, resulting in the deaths of two soldiers and two vigilantes. These repeated incidents underscore the ongoing security challenges faced by residents, highlighting the urgent need for enhanced protective measures and community support.
