Plateau Government Issues Alert as Military Operation Launches After Bandit Ambush

The Plateau State government has issued a critical alert to residents of Kanam Local Council, warning of an ongoing military operation targeting bandits in the Garga axis. This action comes in response to a severe security incident that occurred on Friday, which has escalated tensions in the region.

Security Incident and Community Alarm

On Saturday, the Kanam Development Association raised an alarm over an attack by bandits on security personnel, including vigilantes, within the council area. According to the association, the security agents, who were part of a patrol team, were ambushed in the Garga area. This ambush led to significant chaos and distress among local residents, prompting immediate government intervention.

In a statement released yesterday, the Plateau State government expressed deep concern over the incident, which resulted in mayhem and loss of life. The government commended the bravery and sacrifice of the security personnel and vigilantes who lost their lives while confronting the attackers, highlighting their dedication to protecting the community.

Rising Casualty Figures Confirmed by Resident

Meanwhile, a resident of Garga Community, Musa Yusuf, who traveled to Jos to provide firsthand information, confirmed to The Guardian that the number of casualties has increased to 26. Yusuf stated, "It is now 26. I am confirming it to you now. One of the vigilantes, who died on Sunday, is my brother's son. I saw the six who died, including two soldiers." This update underscores the gravity of the attack and the personal toll it has taken on families in the area.

The government's alert aims to ensure resident safety during the military operation, as efforts intensify to neutralize the bandit threat and restore peace in Kanam Local Council. Authorities are urging cooperation from the public and emphasizing the importance of vigilance in the face of ongoing security challenges.
