Sokoto Governor Aliyu Visits New IGP, Vows Enhanced Support Against Banditry
Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu has reaffirmed his administration's unwavering commitment to bolstering security agencies in their relentless fight against banditry and various forms of criminality plaguing the state. During a significant visit to the newly appointed Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, at his office in Abuja on Wednesday, Governor Aliyu emphasized the critical role of collective responsibility in safeguarding lives and property.
Logistical Support and Collaborative Efforts
In a detailed statement released by Abubakar Bawa, the Director-General of Media and Publicity at the Government House, Governor Aliyu highlighted the consistent provision of logistics and other essential support to security operatives. The administration has notably purchased and distributed more than 200 patrol vehicles to enhance the operational capacity of these agencies, particularly in regions severely affected by insecurity. This strategic move aims to empower security forces to curb banditry more effectively and restore peace across Sokoto State.
"We are doing this because of our strong belief that protecting the lives and property of our people is a collective responsibility, not that of the Federal Government alone," Governor Aliyu asserted. He acknowledged the persistent challenges posed by banditry but praised the significant progress made by security agencies in recent operations, urging them to maintain this positive momentum.

Governor Aliyu underscored the importance of effective intelligence gathering and seamless information sharing among security agencies as fundamental components for successful security operations. During the meeting, Governor Aliyu took the opportunity to commend former Commissioner of Police Ahmed Musa, now an Assistant Inspector-General (AIG), for his immense contributions to the fight against insecurity in Sokoto State. "The then CP Musa was a brave, disciplined, and committed officer who consistently provided valuable insights on how to rid the state of banditry and other criminal activities," the governor remarked. He called on the newly posted Commissioner of Police, Hayatu Hassan, to emulate his predecessor's dedication and commitment in discharging his constitutional duties.
Governor Aliyu also extended his congratulations to IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu on his recent appointment, encouraging him to justify the confidence placed in him by delivering tangible results in enhancing national security.
