Violence Erupts in Benue Farmlands
Benue State has witnessed another tragic incident of violence as suspected herdsmen attacked farmlands in the Gwer West Local Government Area. The assault resulted in the death of three local farmers, marking a concerning escalation of conflicts in the region.
Details of the Deadly Attack
The violent episode occurred on Thursday, November 27, 2025, behind Government Comprehensive Secondary School in Naka. According to reports, the victims were working on their farms in Gilim Ashi village, a settlement situated along the Naka–Agagbe road, when armed assailants targeted them.
The identified victims include Mr. Ioryer Kwaghkaha OLS and Ayila Atsar, while the third individual remains unidentified at this time. Witnesses reported that the attackers first shot the farmers before subjecting them to brutal physical assault. Emergency services have since evacuated the bodies and deposited them at the Naka morgue for proper identification and preservation.
Pattern of Violence Continues
This latest tragedy comes barely 24 hours after another security incident in the same area. A traveler fell victim to an ambush on the Naka–Makurdi road near Kula village, resulting in another fatality. The back-to-back incidents have raised serious concerns about the security situation in Benue State.
Local authorities are investigating both attacks while community leaders call for increased security presence in the region. The repeated violence has left residents fearful and questioning the effectiveness of current security measures in protecting farming communities from such brutal attacks.
