Tinubu Vows Justice for Ogbomoso School Abduction

President Bola Tinubu has condemned the “barbaric” killing of one of the abducted teachers from the Esiele community in Ogbomoso, Oyo state. The teacher was killed while rescue operations were underway, according to a statement from the President’s media aide, Bayo Onanuga, on Monday.

Attack on Schools

Gunmen attacked Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, Community Grammar School, Esiele, and LA Primary School in Ogbomoso, all in Oriire Local Government Area, Oyo state, last Friday, May 15. The assailants abducted several staff members and students, sparking widespread outrage.

President’s Response

President Tinubu expressed his sympathy to the government and people of Oyo state, assuring that security operatives are “working around the clock” to rescue the remaining victims and arrest the bandits and their collaborators within the community. He emphasized that the federal government would collaborate with the state government to secure the release of all hostages.

“I am saddened by the reported killing of one of the teachers kidnapped by the gunmen who invaded the community. I sympathise with Governor Seyi Makinde and commend the steps he has taken on the matter. I sympathise with the families of the kidnapped victims,” Tinubu said.

The President commended the Inspector-General of Police and the Commissioners of Police in Oyo and Kwara States for their swift intervention and deployment of a tactical team and the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) to rescue the victims. He stated that the IGP, following his instructions, is personally leading a tech-driven operation, with a breakthrough expected soon.

“The bandits and all their local collaborators will be fished out and made to face the full wrath of the law,” Tinubu declared. He also called for the establishment of state police to secure underserved areas, urging the National Assembly to accelerate the enactment of the law creating state police.
