Tiv Leaders Sound Alarm Over Fresh Security Threats in Taraba State
The President General of the Tiv Cultural and Social Association (TCSA), James Chihi Bakah, together with the Forum of Tiv Political Appointees, has issued a stark warning about emerging security threats directed at Tiv communities in Southern Taraba. Speaking to journalists on Thursday in Jalingo, the group expressed serious concerns that attackers may be regrouping with plans to target specific areas.
Specific Communities at Risk
According to the Tiv leaders, communities including Ananum, Tor-Damisa, Peva, and Kofai Amadu in Donga and Takum local government areas face potential danger. The leaders emphasized that these threats come despite recent improvements in security conditions across the region.
Commendation for Security Efforts
In a notable development, the Tiv leadership praised recent security deployments across affected communities, acknowledging that these interventions have begun to restore calm in previously volatile areas. Bakah specifically highlighted the efforts of the Taraba State Government under Governor Agbu Kefas, noting that the presence of security personnel has significantly improved ground conditions.
"Some areas that were previously tense are now experiencing relative calm," Bakah stated during the briefing. He added that the deployment has effectively deterred further attacks and renewed confidence among residents who had endured months of fear and uncertainty.
Appreciation for Federal Response
The group extended their appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, along with the Nigerian Army and Nigerian Air Force, for their swift response to reported threats. They noted that this timely intervention helped prevent what could have escalated into a wider crisis across the region.
Bakah warned that without the prompt action of both state government and security agencies, the situation might have deteriorated into violence reminiscent of past incidents in neighboring states like Benue and Kwara.
Calls for Sustained Security Presence
While acknowledging the progress achieved, the Tiv leaders called for sustained and possibly increased security presence in vulnerable communities including New Gboko, Demevaa, Adu, and Gbundu. They stressed that maintaining this security posture is crucial to prevent any relapse into violence, particularly as the farming season approaches.

The leaders also expressed gratitude to Governor Kefas for providing relief materials to displaced persons in Donga, Abako, and Chanchanji. They described this humanitarian gesture as a demonstration of responsive leadership that addresses both security and welfare concerns simultaneously.
