The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old man accused of chasing a victim with a toy pistol at Kofar Sauri. The suspect was taken into custody on August 22 after police operatives and local vigilante members responded to a report of an attempted robbery.
Incident Reported at 7pm, Suspect Held Within an Hour
The police received a report at about 7pm on August 22 that a young man was chasing another person while pointing what appeared to be a pistol at the victim. Officers and vigilante members moved to the scene and arrested the suspect at approximately 8pm at Kofar Sauri in Katsina.
During a search following the arrest, police recovered a black toy pistol from the suspect. The weapon was confirmed to be an imitation firearm, not a real gun.
Police Spokesperson Confirms Arrest and Investigation
The Katsina State Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, confirmed the arrest and detailed the swift response. He said, “Consequently, in collaboration with members of the local vigilante group, police operatives swiftly responded and arrested the suspect at about 8:00 p.m. at Kofar Sauri, Katsina.”
The suspect is being investigated for alleged impersonation and attempted robbery. He remains in police custody while the investigation continues.
Commissioner Commends Vigilante and Urges Public Vigilance
The Commissioner of Police in Katsina, Ali Umar-Fage, praised residents and vigilante members for quickly alerting security operatives and assisting with the arrest. He urged the public to stay alert and report suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station.
The commissioner stressed that continued cooperation between residents and security agencies is important in the fight against crime in Katsina State.
