The Anambra State Police Command has successfully dismantled a criminal gang that was terrorizing residents while disguised as vigilante personnel. Five suspects have been arrested for allegedly using this guise to carry out armed robbery operations in Awka.
How the Fake Vigilante Operatives Were Caught
According to a statement released on Sunday, December 21, 2025, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the arrests were made by operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Awkuzu. The police were acting on intelligence and ongoing investigations into cases of criminal conspiracy and armed robbery.
The breakthrough occurred at Ring Road in Nibo, Awka. During the operation, law enforcement officers recovered significant evidence, including:
- Two pump-action guns
- Five live cartridges
- One ash-coloured shuttle bus used in their operations
- Face masks and a plate number
- Other incriminating items
Suspects and Their Confessions
The five male suspects have been identified as:
Solomon Saddah, Okolocha George Kaosisochukwu, John Obi Ogwaju, Chukwuemeka Chisom Ikenwa, and Eze Obinna Joshua.
During interrogation, the suspects reportedly made useful statements, admitting their involvement in criminal activities. They confessed to operating from the shuttle bus, using the appearance of vigilante personnel as a cover to approach and rob innocent citizens without raising suspicion.

The police confirmed that the arrested individuals are currently cooperating with investigators, providing information expected to help uncover other criminal collaborators and networks in the state.
