Five Suspects Arrested for Vicious Attack on Married Woman
The Imo State Police Command has finalized preparations to prosecute five men accused of brutally assaulting a married woman, Mrs. Ndudiamaka Agu, in the Emekuku area of Owerri North Local Government Area. The disturbing incident, captured in a viral video that circulated for over a week, shows the men violently manhandling the woman, including lifting and throwing her forcefully against a building wall.
According to police investigations, the attackers unexpectedly approached Agu at her marital home. The assault occurred because the suspects believed she had cooperated with police officers during a recent investigative visit to the community.
Police Investigation and Arrests
In a statement released on Monday evening, DSP Henry Okoye, the Police Public Relations Officer for Imo State Command, confirmed that five suspects have been apprehended. The arrests were made by operatives of the X-Squad Unit following directives from the Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, who ordered swift action on the case.
The arrested individuals have been identified as: Onyekachi Njoku (40), Chiazor Osuji (45), Chukwuma Iwuala (46), Eugene Njoku, and Njoku Emmanuel (35). All suspects are residents of Uboegbelu in Emekuku, Owerri North Local Government Area.
Okoye disclosed that all five suspects have made confessional statements admitting their involvement in the attack. However, a sixth suspect, Onyedikachi Njoku, remains at large, with police operatives intensifying efforts to apprehend him.
Police Commitment to Justice
The Commissioner of Police has strongly condemned the assault and reaffirmed that intimidation of citizens who lawfully cooperate with the police will not be tolerated. CP Danjuma has assured the public that justice will be served in this matter.
The arrested suspects will be arraigned in court soon with appropriate criminal charges, according to the police statement. The case has drawn significant public attention and outrage since the video went viral, prompting immediate action from law enforcement authorities.
Following the assault, numerous Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) took up the matter, demanding the apprehension and prosecution of the suspects to ensure justice for the victim.
