The Osun State Police Command has apprehended a 50-year-old man in Ilesa for the alleged serial defilement of a 12-year-old girl, a crime that reportedly began in July 2025.
How the Crime Was Uncovered
The incident came to light on November 16, 2025, when the victim's mother, a widow, reported the case at the 'C' Divisional Police Headquarters in Ilesa. According to the police spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the mother grew suspicious after discovering a strange whitish substance on her daughter's underwear while doing laundry.
Upon gentle questioning, the young girl revealed a horrifying truth. She confessed that their neighbour, the now-arrested suspect, had been having carnal knowledge of her. The police acted swiftly on the report, taking the child for an immediate medical examination at an approved facility.
Medical Evidence and Disturbing Details
The medical examination confirmed the girl had been sexually assaulted, with evidence of forceful penetration. In a tragic twist, she was also found to be malnourished and was subsequently moved to a succour centre for continued care and support.
Further investigation by the police uncovered that the assault reported in November was not an isolated event. The suspect had allegedly been exploiting the child since July 2025. He reportedly preyed on the vulnerable situation of the girl's family, as her mother is a widow without a stable source of income.
In a chilling detail, the statement revealed the suspect would give the victim N200 after each act, supposedly for her to buy food.
Police Response and Call for Vigilance
The case has been transferred to the Family and Gender Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department for detailed investigation and prosecution. The State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan, has strongly condemned what he described as a disturbing act of child abuse, molestation, and exploitation.
The police command used the opportunity to urge parents and guardians across Osun State to be more vigilant and to report any suspicious behaviour towards children to the nearest police station or relevant authorities. "Together, we can protect our children and uphold justice," the statement concluded.
