The Adamawa State Police Command has made a shocking arrest of a 71-year-old man accused of murdering his wife following a domestic dispute that turned deadly. Jeriel Clifford Peter stands accused of killing his 67-year-old wife, Miltha Jeriel, in a violent attack that has left the community in mourning.

Details of the Fatal Confrontation

The tragic incident occurred on November 6, 2025, when what began as an argument at a beer parlour in the Demsa Local Government Council escalated into a deadly confrontation. According to police reports, the disagreement between the elderly couple turned violent when Peter allegedly attacked his wife with multiple weapons.

Police operatives from the Demsa Division, responding to a distress call, arrived at the scene to find the victim with multiple injuries. The officers, led by the Divisional Police Officer, immediately rushed the wounded woman to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.

Tragically, Miltha Jeriel was confirmed dead while receiving medical care. Her body has been placed in the hospital mortuary where authorities will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Police Response and Investigation

Law enforcement officials have taken the suspect into custody and recovered the weapons used in the attack, which included a knife and an axe. The Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, described the incident as "unfortunate" and has ordered an urgent and thorough investigation.

Commissioner Morris has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yola to take over the case and ensure diligent prosecution. He strongly condemned all forms of domestic violence during his statement, urging members of the public to seek peaceful means of resolving disputes.

In a separate but positive development, the Adamawa State Police Command successfully rescued a kidnapped man, Abdullahi Usman, following swift response to a distress call in the Girei area. The rescue operation began after a resident, Adamu Shugaba, reported hearing suspicious sounds from an uncompleted building in Jabbore, Viniklang.

Police officers discovered the victim tied up with pieces of cloth restraining his hands and legs. The Divisional Police Officer of Viniklang led the team that freed Usman, who was subsequently taken to a hospital for medical examination and was confirmed to be unharmed.

Commissioner Morris commended the officers for their prompt action and has directed the command's Anti-Kidnapping Unit to take over the investigation to ensure the perpetrators are apprehended.

Meanwhile, in Rivers State, police have arrested a suspect in connection with the rape and murder of a young orphan, Miss Success Anosike, whose lifeless body was discovered in her room on November 3, 2025.
