The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court has remanded two siblings and a third suspect in connection with the alleged murder of their father, Adimike Godwin, in the Guzape area of Abuja. The defendants, Adimike Anthony, Adimike Stephany, and Comfort Ajibade, were arraigned by the FCT Police Command on four charges, including criminal conspiracy to commit culpable homicide, culpable homicide, and offences under the Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act.
Incident Details and Police Response
According to police reports, the case stems from an incident on May 15, 2026, when officers at the Guzape Divisional Headquarters received a distress call from a relative who reported being unable to reach the deceased. Police spokesperson Josephine Adeh stated that detectives found Godwin unconscious in his room with multiple stab wounds. “Police detectives promptly responded to the scene and found him lying unconscious in his room with multiple stab wounds. He was immediately rushed to Karu General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead by medical personnel on duty,” she said.
Investigation and Arrests
Adeh noted that the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, ordered a comprehensive investigation, leading to the initial arrest of five suspects, including the deceased’s driver and gateman. “Following a discreet and comprehensive investigation ordered by the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, five suspects were initially arrested in connection with the case, comprising Adimike Odirachukwu Anthony, Adimike Chinyere Stephany, Comfort Ajibade, the deceased’s driver and gateman,” she explained. After further investigations, only Anthony, Stephany, and Ajibade were charged to court.
Charges and Court Proceedings
The three defendants were jointly charged with conspiracy to commit culpable homicide and culpable homicide over Godwin’s death. Additionally, Anthony was separately charged with entering into a same-sex civil union, while Stephany and Ajibade were jointly charged with the same offence under the Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act. The court adjourned the case until September 30, 2026, and ordered that the three defendants be remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre pending further proceedings.
