Nigerian humanitarian Tracy Mcwary has shared a distressing account of domestic violence, revealing that an abusive husband poured hot water on his wife. This disclosure came as she reacted to the story of Omerebere Faith Okafor, a Nigerian woman who allegedly endured years of domestic violence before her death.
Refusal to Leave Abusive Marriage
According to Mcwary, she had agreed to raise funds to help the woman escape the abusive relationship, but the woman refused to leave the marriage. “I once saw one, even when we agreed to raise money for her to leave, she refused to leave. Her husband recently poured her hot water,” she wrote.
Stockholm Syndrome in Domestic Violence Victims
Mcwary further commented on the psychological challenges faced by victims of domestic violence. “A lot of women in DV homes are experiencing Stockholm syndrome. Sometimes, I feel it’s their fate. The children will survive without you my dear,” she added.
This tragic incident highlights the complexities of domestic violence and the difficulties victims face in leaving abusive relationships, even when external support is available.
