A 22-year-old man, Habu Hellere Dauda, has been remanded in prison custody by a Chief Magistrate Court in Yola, Adamawa State, for allegedly robbing a nine-year-old boy of N600 at knife-point.
Court Proceedings and Charges
The Chief Magistrate Court 3, presided over by Uwani Danladi, ordered Dauda's remand after he was arraigned by police prosecutor Danjuma Hamidu. The prosecutor told the court that Dauda attacked the victim, Aliyu Mohammed, at Ajiya Street, Jimeta, on Sunday, August 9, and took the money from him.
When the First Information Report was interpreted to him, Dauda pleaded guilty to the offences. The police prosecutor subsequently applied for his remand to enable the prosecution to call a witness to corroborate his plea.
Remand and Adjournment
Chief Magistrate Uwani granted the application and adjourned the matter until Monday, August 17, for corroboration and possible summary trial. Uwani thereafter remanded Dauda on charges of criminal intimidation and shilla gangsterism, contrary to Sections 382 and 346 of the Penal Code Law of Adamawa State.
The defendant, of Rumde Makera, Jimeta, will remain in prison custody pending the next court hearing. The case highlights ongoing efforts to address criminal activities involving the 'shilla' gang in the region.
