Alcohol and devil pushed me to commit crime, says Edo suspect

Orji Okoro, a man arrested in Edo State for sodomising a 12-year-old male apprentice, has blamed alcohol and the devil for the crime. The state Commissioner of Police, Patrick Daaor, paraded Okoro and other suspects on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, for alleged defilement of minors and other crimes.

Police arrest and investigation

CP Daaor stated that on August 13, the police received a report of an unnatural offence in which a 12-year-old male apprentice was allegedly sexually assaulted by Orji Okoro at the suspect’s residence. The suspect was subsequently arrested, and an investigation is currently ongoing.

The commissioner assured that the suspect would be charged to court as soon as the investigation is completed.

Suspect admits to crime, blames alcohol and devil

In an interview with journalists, the suspect admitted to the crime. “I defiled a young boy, I was drunk when the incident happened. Alcohol pushed me commit the crime,” he said. He added, “I am a family man; it was the devil that pushed him to commit the crime.”

Okoro said he was arrested after his victim reported the incident to his master, who also reported the matter to the police.

Next steps and legal proceedings

The Commissioner reiterated that the suspect would be charged to court once the investigation is complete. The police have not provided a timeline for the court proceedings, but the case remains under active investigation.
