19-Year-Old Serial Motorcycle Robber Apprehended by Amotekun

Operatives of the Ondo State Security Network, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, have successfully arrested a 19-year-old suspected serial motorcycle robber, Ayomide Oyediran. The arrest occurred during the ongoing ember period border security patrol, code-named ‘Operation Le Won Jade’.

Tracking the Suspect to His Hideout

The suspect, who hails from Ola in Kwara State, was tracked down to the Ajue community, near Ore in the Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State. This action followed a violent incident in Kwara State where he allegedly attacked a commercial motorcycle rider with a sledgehammer and fled with the bike.

While confessing to the crime at the Amotekun corps headquarters in Akure, Oyediran revealed his motive. “I told the okada rider to take me from Omu-Aran, Kwara, to a farm settlement,” the suspect stated. “When we got there, I pretended to make a phone call to distract him. Then I hit him on the head with a sledgehammer. He abandoned the motorcycle and ran.” He further admitted that his intention was to use the stolen motorcycle for commercial transportation in Ore.

Inter-State Cooperation Leads to Justice

According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Jimoh Adeniken, investigations revealed that the suspect remained in Ore for some time before attempting to return to Kwara. “He believed the rider may have died from the attack,” Adeniken said. “However, security personnel in Ajuwe community, who had been on the alert, eventually apprehended him.”

Adeniken added that the suspect has now been handed over to the Kwara State Local Government Security Initiative for continued investigation and potential prosecution. Meanwhile, the Kwara security outfit expressed its appreciation to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for his efforts in strengthening security across Ondo State and voiced optimism for deeper collaboration between the two states.
