Social media influencer Andrew Tate has alleged that the conditions of his detention in a Miami jail are "cruel and unusual," specifically claiming that the water provided in his cell is making him ill. In a series of social media posts over the weekend, Tate stated that the only water available to him comes from what he described as a "brown and filthy" shower tap. He asserted that he is not permitted to drink bottled water and is instead being "forced to drink poisoned water," which he claims has caused "persistent stomach problems."
Arrest and Extradition Background
Tate and his brother, Tristan Tate, were arrested earlier this month in Miami following the execution of a UK extradition warrant by US Marshals. The brothers are wanted in the United Kingdom to face charges including rape, sex trafficking, and child pornography—allegations they both deny. The legal proceedings are ongoing, with a court hearing scheduled for Monday.
Conditions in Special Housing Unit
Tate further claimed that he is being held in a Special Housing Unit, where he has no access to the prison commissary, no phone calls, and no time outside his cell. His attorney, Joseph McBride, confirmed that the legal team plans to address the detention conditions during Monday's hearing. "We'll exhaust all appropriate measures at this time to ensure that Andrew and Tristan are well taken care of," McBride said. He added: "We are gravely concerned about Andrew and Tristan's physical, spiritual and psychological health in solitary confinement."
White House Declines Intervention
Meanwhile, the White House has made clear it will not intervene in the brothers' legal case. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated last week that US President Donald Trump has no plans to intervene while Andrew and Tristan Tate await extradition proceedings to the UK. This development underscores the diplomatic and legal complexities surrounding the case, which has drawn significant media attention.
