Joe Igbokwe, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has sharply criticized Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde following the governor's controversial remarks regarding the recent abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in the state.
Makinde Calls for UN Investigation
On Monday, July 13, Governor Seyi Makinde urged the United Nations to conduct an independent investigation into the abduction incident. Speaking after the military handed over the rescued victims to him, Makinde argued that the event raised serious questions requiring scrutiny beyond Nigeria's domestic institutions.
Igbokwe's Fiery Response
Taking to Facebook on Tuesday, July 14, Igbokwe expressed his dismay, stating that Makinde had “embarrassed himself and the state.” In his post, Igbokwe wrote: “Come ooooo, is Governor Seyi Makinde the only wise man in Nigeria? The way he is wired worry me to the marrows. He has embarrassed himself, his state, his image, his status, office etc. This is reckless, a ruse and totally uncalled for.”
Igbokwe's comments reflect a growing divide among political figures over how to handle security challenges in the country. The abduction of the Oyo schoolchildren and teachers has sparked national outrage and raised concerns about the effectiveness of local security measures.
