A tragic road accident on the Abuja-Lokoja Expressway has claimed the lives of a prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Mohammed Ibrahim Ibwa, and his aide, Ibrahim Ibwa. The incident occurred on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at Sheda village, involving a head-on collision between a Mercedes-Benz car and a Sino truck.
Details of the Accident
The accident took place around 3:10 p.m. Three individuals were traveling in the Mercedes-Benz at the time of the crash. Ibwa was initially treated at Legend Hospital in Gwagwalada before being referred to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of Thursday, May 14, 2026. His aide died on the spot, while a third person is receiving medical attention.
Burial and Mourners
The remains of the late APC leader were buried in accordance with Islamic rites. Dignitaries at the burial included the chairman-elect of Gwagwalada Area Council, Mohammed Kasim Ikwa; former council chairman, Adamu Mustapha; former House of Representatives member, Isah Egah Dobi; and other prominent politicians.
Condolences Pour In
Senator Philip Aduda, the FCT APC senatorial aspirant, visited Ibwa's family to offer condolences. He urged the family to remain steadfast and prayed for strength to bear the loss. Several political groups and individuals also paid tribute.
Ismaila Mohammed Dogara Yenche, the FCT PDP state chairman, described the loss as a significant blow to the entire Federal Capital Territory, stating: "We have lost young, promising leaders at a time when their service was most needed."
