Baba Ijesha Unbothered by Critics After Visit to MC Oluomo, Ooni Denies Chieftaincy
Baba Ijesha Unbothered by Critics After Visit to MC Oluomo

Yoruba actor Olanrewaju James, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, has dismissed criticism over his recent public appearances, stating he is unbothered by public opinion. He made the remarks during a visit to National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) President Musiliu Akinsanya, also known as MC Oluomo, in Abuja. The actor, accompanied by his wife, fashion entrepreneur Abiodun Tokunbo, described their relationship as a long-standing friendship and declared that “glory had met glory.”

Visit Comes After Ooni’s Denial of Chieftaincy Title

The visit occurred days after the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi, publicly denied conferring the “Awada Konge Oduwa” chieftaincy title on Baba Ijesha. The actor had earlier announced receiving the honour, but the Ooni’s palace refuted the claim. Baba Ijesha has not directly addressed the denial; instead, he used the meeting with MC Oluomo to dismiss his critics.

In a video obtained by this newspaper, Baba Ijesha and his wife were seen taking pictures with MC Oluomo and his aides at what appears to be his house. Afterwards, MC Oluomo held a personal conversation with the couple, with all parties smiling and engaging in what appeared to be a meaningful exchange.

Baba Ijesha’s Remarks on Critics

Speaking during the visit, Baba Ijesha said: “Glory has met glory. MC Oluomo and I have been together for a very long time. We don’t kill people, that’s a lie. We did all the work: driving, conducting. But today, glory be to God, we’re grateful. Whatever people like, they should continue saying it.”

His comments come amid widespread online criticism following his release from prison after a conviction for sexually assaulting a child. Netizens have questioned why respected public figures are receiving and celebrating someone convicted of such an offence, arguing that the reception reflects societal willingness to excuse or endorse such behaviour.

Recent Public Appearances

Baba Ijesha’s visits to two influential Nigerians within a short period follow a series of public appearances after his release. He earlier announced the birth of his son, King Kagar, with his wife, featured on actress Biola Adebayo’s “Talk To B” podcast, and released a music video, “Eniwaye Dáràn”, in which he addressed his dispute with comedienne Damilola “Princess Comedian” Adekoya.

Background and Public Reaction

Since leaving prison, Baba Ijesha has remained active on social media and continued to make appearances around prominent personalities, drawing widespread reactions online. Critics argue that such public receptions normalize criminal behaviour and undermine efforts to protect children. The actor, however, remains unapologetic, focusing on his personal and professional activities despite the controversy.
