In a devastating assault, armed bandits have killed a Community Health Officer (CHO), two police officers, and two other civilians in the Yarkatsinan Laka community, located within Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State. The Zamfara State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, officially confirmed the tragic incident in a statement released on Thursday, April 9, 2026. According to the detailed account provided by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), a large contingent of armed bandits invaded the community on the same date, arriving on more than 50 motorcycles and equipped with sophisticated weaponry.
The police report specifies that the attack occurred at approximately 5:55 PM on April 7, 2026. The bandits, described as numerous and heavily armed, launched their assault on the Yarkatsinan Laka community, creating a scene of chaos and terror among residents.
Police Response and Casualty Figures
In response to the invasion, the Police Strike Unit acted swiftly, engaging the assailants in an intense gun battle. This confrontation resulted in the neutralization of eleven armed bandits, with several others managing to escape the scene while suffering from gunshot injuries.
Regrettably, during the exchange of fire, two police personnel and three civilians lost their lives. Among the civilian casualties was the Community Health Officer, whose death represents a significant blow to local medical services.
