Bashir El-Rufai, one of the sons of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has divorced his first wife, Halima Nwakaego, after five years of marriage. He is now preparing to marry another woman later this year.
Background of the Marriage
Bashir married Halima Nwakaego Kazaure, daughter of former Senator Ibrahim Kazaure from Jigawa State, on November 21, 2020. The union lasted for about five years before its dissolution.
Announcement on Social Media
During the Eid celebration, Bashir took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his attraction to another woman. When users questioned him, he revealed that the woman is his fiancée. Confused followers asked if he was still married, and he admitted that he is now divorced.
Explaining his reason for the divorce, he wrote: “I divorced my first wife, (I have no time for GenZ wahala). The difference is clear. I had no clue Nupe women treat their husbands like emperors. Loving it.”
Halima's Earlier Hints
Halima had previously hinted at marital issues when she made a post during the Frank Edoho and Sandra Edoho marriage crisis. She shared a photo of herself listening to singer Chike’s song “If You No Love” in her car, with the caption: “Chike dey for you.” This was seen as aligning with Chike, whom Frank had accused of having an affair with his wife.
