Bauchi ex-deputy governor loses two children in crash

Senator Baba Tela, the immediate former Deputy Governor of Bauchi State, has tragically lost two of his children in a fatal motor accident. The deceased, Mustapha and Ummi, died on Saturday, July 24, when the vehicle they were traveling in crashed along the Bauchi-Azare road. They were returning to Bauchi from Azare, the headquarters of Katagum Local Government Area.

Details of the Accident

According to reports, the impact of the crash was severe, resulting in the instant death of both children. Their bodies were subsequently taken to a hospital in Bauchi, where medical officials confirmed their deaths.

Governor Bala Mohammed's Condolences

Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, expressed deep sorrow and heartfelt condolences over the tragedy. In a statement signed by Mukhtar Gidado, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor, Bala Mohammed conveyed his sympathies on behalf of his family, the state government, and the people of Bauchi. He described the incident as a painful tragedy that has cast a shadow of grief over the entire state.

“The loss of two young lives in such tragic circumstances is not only a devastating blow to Senator Baba Tela and his immediate family but also a painful loss to the entire people of Bauchi State,” the governor said.

Prayers and Funeral Arrangements

Governor Bala Mohammed prayed that Almighty Allah would grant the departed eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus and give their parents, family members, friends, and all affected the strength, patience, and fortitude to bear the loss. He urged the bereaved family to take solace in the will of Allah, reminding them that every soul shall return to its Creator at the appointed time.

The governor assured Senator Baba Tela of the thoughts, prayers, and solidarity of the government and people of Bauchi during this difficult period. He also extended sympathies to all affected by the accident and prayed for the speedy recovery of those who sustained injuries. Bala Mohammed urged residents to join him in praying for the peaceful repose of the souls of the deceased and for Allah’s comfort upon the bereaved family.

The funeral prayer for the deceased is scheduled to take place on Sunday, July 5, 2026, at the Emir’s Palace, Bauchi, by 11:00am.
