The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old housewife, Aisha Musa, for allegedly attempting to murder her husband by poisoning his food just 40 days after their wedding. The suspect was taken into custody following an incident in Gwamma village, Bauchi Local Government Area, on August 12, 2026.
Incident Details and Police Response
According to the command's spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, who issued a statement on Thursday, August 13, 2026, the suspect allegedly mixed a poisonous substance into her husband's meal on the day of the incident. A distress call was received from an anonymous woman, prompting officers to mobilize quickly to the scene.
The victim was immediately rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, where he is currently receiving medical treatment and is reported to be in stable condition. The suspect was apprehended shortly after the incident and, during interrogation, voluntarily made a confessional statement admitting to the offence.
Official Statement and Evidence Recovered
In the official statement, Habib detailed the sequence of events: "Accordingly, on 12th August, 2026 at about 1515hrs, the suspect, who is said to be a bride of about 40 days, allegedly introduced a poisonous substance into her husband’s meal." The distress call was received at approximately 1940hrs the same day from an anonymous lady residing in the Wunti Dada Area of Bauchi.
Police operatives from 'C' Division Tafawa Balewa Estate responded swiftly. In addition to the arrest, an empty bottle suspected to contain poison and remnants of the food were recovered and duly registered as exhibits.
Investigation and Next Steps
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, mni, psc (+), has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a discreet and thorough investigation. The suspect will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
The command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property and enforcing law and order across the state. Members of the public were urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station. The suspect remains in custody as the investigation proceeds.
