Senator Shehu Buba Umar, representing Bauchi South, has distributed relief materials and cash donations totaling N7 million to victims of a devastating flood in Bara, Kirfi Local Government Area of Bauchi State. The flood, which occurred on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, following heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds, destroyed over 50 houses and claimed the lives of a 50-year-old woman and her 4-year-old granddaughter.
Senator Visits Affected Community
The senator visited the area on Sunday evening to sympathize with the victims, who are now homeless. He donated grains, mats, and cash to alleviate their suffering. Addressing the victims at the palace of the District Head of Bara, Senator Buba announced a donation of N5 million for the affected households, N500,000 for the palace, N500,000 for the youths, and N500,000 for women. He also gave an additional N500,000 to the family that lost their relatives.
Distribution of Grains
In addition to the cash donations, the lawmaker distributed 100 bags of 25kg rice, 100 bags of 80kg maize, and over 100 mats to the victims. The items were handed over to community leaders for equitable distribution.
According to police reports, the rainstorm destroyed several houses, livestock, and other valuables worth millions of naira. The senator expressed condolences to the bereaved families and assured them of continued support from the federal government.
