Authorities Yet to Release Official Statement

As of the time of reporting, Nigerian authorities have not issued an official statement regarding the cause of the explosion or the total number of casualties. The lack of information has contributed to growing anxiety among residents, who fear more explosions might occur.

The explosion has created a state of panic in Kaiama, with community members worried about their safety amid what appears to be escalating security concerns in the region.

Recent Arrests of Suspected Terrorists in Kaiama

In a related development, two suspected terrorists were recently arrested in Kaiama during a market operation. The suspects were allegedly attempting to purchase motorcycles ahead of the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations when security operatives apprehended them on Saturday.

According to sources familiar with the incident, the suspects approached a local motorcycle dealer identified as Ishiaka, a Yoruba trader from Kishi who sells motorcycles in the area. Eyewitnesses reported that the suspects blended in with other buyers at the crowded market before security forces moved in.

Nasiru, a youth leader who witnessed the arrest, confirmed that the suspects were taken into custody by soldiers. "They were handed over to the army. They are with the army because it was the army that apprehended them," he stated.

Suspected Links to Previous Attacks

There is growing belief among residents that the arrested individuals were part of an armed group responsible for deadly attacks on Woro and other villages in Kaiama Local Government Area. "People believed the arrested suspects were among those who attacked Woro and other villages. There is a strong suspicion about that. However, the army has not said anything officially as of now," Nasiru added.

Community sources revealed that the suspects had been under surveillance before their arrest. "They came like normal buyers because the market was busy with people preparing for Sallah. Nobody suspected them at first, but security officers had already been monitoring their movements," a source explained.

The suspects remain in military custody, with no official statement yet issued by the Nigerian Army regarding their identities or alleged involvement in previous attacks.

This tragic incident underscores the ongoing security challenges facing communities in Kwara State and highlights the urgent need for enhanced safety measures and transparent communication from authorities.
