British National Fatally Shot in Tema Robbery Incident
A 68-year-old British citizen has been shot dead during a violent robbery at a drinking spot in Tema, Ghana. The victim, identified as Ashraf Qarmar Parvez, was attacked when he attempted to prevent thieves from stealing his mobile phone.
Chaotic Scene at Popular Drinking Spot
According to police reports, the incident occurred when six young men arrived on motorbikes at the entertainment venue where Parvez was sitting with a group. Two of the assailants approached their table while another snatched the British man's phone from the table.
When Parvez tried to retrieve his stolen property, one of the gang members produced a firearm and opened fire in the ensuing confrontation. The victim sustained gunshot wounds and was rushed to hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Police Launch Full-Scale Manhunt
The Tema Regional Police Command has initiated a comprehensive operation to track down the perpetrators who fled the scene on their motorbikes. Investigators recovered a 9mm spent shell from the crime scene, which is being processed for forensic evidence.
In an official statement, police authorities assured the public that every effort is being made to arrest the suspects and bring them to justice. The command is also coordinating with the British Embassy to formally notify them of their national's death.
The UK Foreign Office confirmed they are providing support to the family of the deceased British citizen. The tragic incident has highlighted ongoing security concerns in the area east of Ghana's capital, Accra.
