Adamawa Police Apprehend Brother in Political Figure's Murder Case

The Adamawa State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in a high-profile homicide case, arresting a man accused of murdering his own elder brother, who was a prominent political figure in the state.

Details of the Arrest and Crime

According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, the suspect, identified as Abubakar Sadiq, was taken into custody in connection with the killing of Alhaji Sadiq Kawu Boga. The victim, a chieftain of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), served as the Supervisory Councillor for Agriculture and Natural Resources in Gombi Local Government Area. He was tragically killed on January 20, 2026, in what appears to be a premeditated act of violence.

The arrest followed credible intelligence gathered by police operatives attached to the Gombi Divisional Police Headquarters. During interrogation, Abubakar Sadiq confessed to committing the crime alongside five other individuals. In a surprising turn of events, the suspect cooperated with authorities, leading them to recover crucial evidence from the scene.

Recovery of Firearms and Identification of Accomplices

Police recovered several weapons linked to the murder, including one AK-47 rifle, a locally made single-barrel rifle, one Dane gun, and twenty-four rounds of live ammunition. The suspect further provided information about two of his accomplices: Jalo Hamiyu, aged 35, and Umar Baba, aged 41, both residents of Fotta Village in Gombi LGA.

A joint operation involving police operatives, professional hunters, and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force was immediately launched to apprehend these individuals at their hideouts.

Fatal Confrontation with Security Forces

Upon sighting the security team, the two suspects opened fire in an attempt to scare off the operatives and escape arrest. This aggressive response led to an intense gun duel, resulting in the neutralization of both Jalo Hamiyu and Umar Baba. Additional exhibits were recovered at the scene, further solidifying the case against the criminal network.

Ongoing Investigations and Police Commitment

The Adamawa State Police Command has described this operation as a major achievement in its ongoing fight against violent crimes, including culpable homicide, armed robbery, kidnapping, and illegal possession of firearms. Efforts are currently underway to track down and arrest the remaining members of the crime network who are still at large.

Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, PSC (+), praised the gallantry and professionalism displayed by the Divisional Police Officer and his team. He reassured the public of the command's unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property across Adamawa State. The police have encouraged citizens to continue providing timely information to support security operations.

The suspect, Abubakar Sadiq, will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation, as the legal process moves forward to deliver justice in this disturbing case of familial betrayal and political violence.
