An Abuja-based car dealer has provided a detailed account of how a suspected car thief allegedly stole his vehicle after negotiating the price down from ₦15 million to ₦13.5 million. The suspect was later apprehended, and the vehicle recovered.
Initial Contact and Negotiation
According to the dealer, the suspect first contacted him online after seeing an advertisement for the ₦15 million vehicle. The suspect negotiated the price down to ₦13.5 million and arranged an inspection. The dealer agreed to meet for a test drive.
Test Drive Turns into Theft
During the test drive, the suspect claimed he was hungry and suggested stopping by the dealer's house. Believing there was no danger, the dealer complied. As soon as they exited the car, two other men appeared, restrained the dealer, snatched the car keys, and drove off with the vehicle.
Police Involvement and Tracking
The dealer immediately reported the incident to the police and the car community in Abuja. The vehicle's location was tracked, leading authorities to the University of Abuja, where the suspect was found with the car after allegedly driving around the campus.
Recovery and Ongoing Investigation
The vehicle has since been recovered, and the suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue. The dealer shared his story on social media, warning others about such tactics.
