Residents of Ogooluwa community in Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State, Nigeria, were thrown into mourning on Monday, August 31, after the Shepherd of Iri Orun Parish of the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC), Bidemi Odukoya, allegedly macheted his wife to death during a midnight domestic dispute before reportedly taking his own life by running into a speeding truck.
Midnight Argument Over Infidelity Escalates Into Deadly Fight
Eyewitnesses told journalists that trouble began when the clergyman accused his wife of having an affair with another man. The deceased wife also accused her husband of seeing another lady in his church. On the day of the incident, the couple began a heated argument at about midnight, which spiralled into a physical fight.
During the fight, the clergyman allegedly used a machete to inflict serious injury on his wife's head. She reportedly collapsed on the floor, lying in a pool of her blood. Her 14-year-old son, Daniel, immediately ran out to alert neighbours, who came in and found her dead.
Pastor Flees Scene, Dies After Running Into Truck
After allegedly attacking his wife, Odukoya, a father of three boys, reportedly fled the community and headed for the Coker junction, Ifo section of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, about 20 minutes drive away from Akiode community. He allegedly then threw himself in front of a moving truck, resulting in his instant death.
Both husband and wife were buried beside their home on Monday evening, according to local reports.
Police Launch Investigation, Case Transferred to SCID
Confirming the incident to newsmen, the spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, ASP Opeyemi Oluborode, said the police have since launched an investigation. He mentioned that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for diligent investigation.
The tragic event has left the community in shock, with residents mourning the loss of a couple whose domestic dispute ended in such a violent outcome. The police investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected as the case progresses.
