The Adamawa State Police Command has apprehended a 26-year-old cleaner, Mihammed Dan-Azumi, for allegedly stealing a 2016 Toyota Corolla Sport valued at approximately N18 million from a medical doctor serving in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme. The suspect was arrested in Kano State following a coordinated operation by the police's State Intelligence Department (SID) in Yola.
Incident Details
According to a statement issued on Tuesday, July 21, by the command's spokesman, SP Suleiman Nguroje, the doctor, who is currently observing his mandatory one-year NYSC service at a hospital, had entrusted his vehicle to Dan-Azumi for washing. The cleaner, who also works at the same hospital, instead absconded with the car to an unknown destination.
“The breakthrough followed a report lodged by the owner of the vehicle, who stated that he had entrusted his vehicle to Mohammed Dan-Azumi, 26, of Girei Local Government Area, for washing. The suspect allegedly absconded with the vehicle to an unknown destination,” Nguroje stated.
Police Operation and Recovery
After the victim reported the theft, operatives of the State Intelligence Department in Yola launched a coordinated, intelligence-led operation that tracked the suspect to Kano State. The stolen vehicle was successfully recovered, and Dan-Azumi was taken into custody.
“Acting swiftly on the report, operatives of the State Intelligence Department (SID), Yola, launched a coordinated, intelligence-led operation that led to the tracking and arrest of the suspect in Kano State. The stolen vehicle was successfully recovered,” the statement added.
Ongoing Investigation
The police confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and the suspect will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of the investigation. No further details about the doctor's identity or the hospital have been disclosed at this time.
