CLO petitions German govt over Nigerian woman's child custody

The Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO) has formally petitioned the German government through its ambassador to Nigeria regarding the plight of a Nigerian woman, Mrs. Emem Hoffmann, who is married to a German national, Mr. Jan Hoffmann. The petition centers on a custody dispute over their child, Uriah Hoffmann, who is reportedly being held in foster care in Germany at the husband's behest.

Petition Details

The CLO issued the petition in a statement signed by the Head of Legal/Litigation Unit, Princewill Akpakpan, on Tuesday. The group expressed outrage that despite allegations of institutional sexual violence, child sex crimes, torture, and psychological distress being brought before the Federal Republic of Germany through its agency, the Bundesjustizamt, no action has been taken to protect the child from what it described as a deteriorating and unacceptable situation.

The CLO stated that Mrs. Hoffmann is challenging the unlawful and improper placement of her son in foster care based on falsified documents. The organization highlighted a series of forged documents, abuse of positions, manipulations, and misuse of legal tools that led to Uriah Hoffmann being placed in a foster care facility for disabled children, where he allegedly suffered anal rape, abuse, and assault for over two years under the care of the Jugendamt Berlin-Lichtenberg.

Demands

The CLO called on the German Chancellor and authorities, as a state party to international law and conventions, to take prompt and decisive steps to address these issues. They demanded the immediate release of Uriah from what they termed unlawful and biased foster care. The organization emphasized that Mrs. Hoffmann is simply seeking justice and liberty, including proof of life of the child with witnesses present, and the child's release in accordance with German and international law.

Background

After about two years of marriage in 2017 in Germany, Mrs. Hoffmann discovered strange and unethical behaviors, including anal sexual abuse and pornography involving her husband, Mr. Jan Hoffmann, and their son, Uriah. This led to heated disagreements, marital separation, and a divorce suit against Mr. Hoffmann. Subsequently, Uriah was taken from his mother's custody and placed in a foster care facility for disabled children at the age of three. Mr. Hoffmann, a former German Navy officer, is alleged to have manipulated the judicial process to frustrate his Nigerian wife by falsely informing German authorities that she suffers from a mental illness.
