The Cross River State Police Command has apprehended a 39-year-old man, Udeme Emmanuel Ekpeme, on charges of impersonation, obtaining money under false pretenses, and illegally operating a mobile clinic. The suspect was taken into custody by officers from the Uwanse Division in Calabar South following a formal complaint.
Complaint and Allegations
Mrs. Edemawan Samuel, 45, reported that Ekpeme falsely presented himself as a medical doctor and fraudulently collected N500,000 from her. He allegedly promised to secure employment for her children at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) but failed to deliver on this promise. Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect used his false identity to deceive the complainant into handing over the money.
Police Investigation and Recovery of Exhibits
During the investigation, police recovered relevant exhibits believed to be linked to the case. The suspect remains in custody as inquiries continue. ASP Eitokpah Akata, the command's spokesperson, confirmed the arrest and stated that the state Commissioner of Police has ordered a thorough investigation to uncover the full circumstances and identify any additional victims or accomplices.

Akata added that upon completion of the investigation, Ekpeme will face court charges if sufficient evidence is found.
