A tragic incident has occurred in Benin City, Edo State, where a 30-year-old decorator, Esohe Aigbe, was hacked to death by suspected assailants while assisting at a burial ceremony. The attack took place on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at Ojo Street in the Ogida area of the city.

Details of the Attack

According to sources, Aigbe had completed decorating the venue for the burial and was still present when the attackers struck with a machete. Speaking anonymously for security reasons, a source revealed that the deceased was attacked with a machete at the venue, and the perpetrators fled immediately after the assault. Good Samaritans rushed her to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, but she succumbed to the deep machete wound.

Police Response

The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the incident. Public Relations Officer Eno Ikoedem stated that the command is aware of the murder case and has one suspect in custody. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend other perpetrators.
